Welcome to Southgate Opera, one of the premier amateur opera companies in London.

Founded in 1964 the company performs an ever changing programme of productions featuring opera, operetta and musical comedy.

Our productions are fully staged and costumed, feature a full chorus and are accompanied by an orchestra.

Run by volunteers, Southgate Opera is a registered charity and is dedicated to making opera accessible and enjoyable for everyone.

We welcome new members, whether you wish to perform, help behind the scenes, backstage, with costumes or props.

Come along to watch one of our rehearsals and meet the company. For more information contact us

Chorus Member

To join our chorus please contact us. No prior experience is required, just a love of music. Why not come along to one of our Monday rehearsals.

The best time to join is at the first rehearsal of a production.

Rehearsals

Chorus rehearsals are held on Mondays at St Mary Magdalene's church in Enfield from 7:30pm - 10pm. Address and contact details are on the contact us page. Chorus members may be asked to attend Sunday afternoon rehearsals, especially closer to the time of a performance.

Rehearsals for the February show start in October and rehearsals for the June show begin straight after the February show.

Fees

To cover the cost of putting on a production (a typical show costs around £20,000) every performing member pays a fee to the company. This is typically £120 per show for chorus or £160 for major principal roles.

Behind the scenes

If you want to be part of putting on a high quality production but do not want to perform yourself there are plenty of other opportunities to get involved.

Have you considered assisting backstage or helping with costumes or props or maybe you have the skills to help build and paint the set?

However you decide to get involved you can be assured of a warm welcome, a rewarding hobby and most of all fun.
